Imagined Idioma

Imagined Idioma is a multifaceted project that delves into the complexities of communication through the lens of language, specifically focusing on writing and alphabets. At its core, the project examines the ways in which different languages and scripts create, bridge, or hinder communication, especially in cross-cultural contexts.

The genesis of the project is my interest in writing systems. I employ a mix of painting, drawing, and installation to explore text, abstracting the shapes and forms of letters and alphabets, transforming them into a symbolic visual language. This visual language invites the viewer to question the role of understanding and misunderstanding in human interaction and how cultural and linguistic diversity influences our ability to connect with one another.

Through my use of varied media, I am endeavoring to create a rich, immersive environment that reflects the fluid and evolving nature of communication. The installation component of the project often creates an interactive experience, allowing viewers to engage with the concept of communication beyond the written word, evoking the sensations of trying to navigate foreign languages and unfamiliar symbols.

Imagined Idioma highlights the beauty and complexity of language as a tool of expression, while also pointing to its limitations, emphasizing the universal human desire to understand and be understood.
