Natural Gothic

I grew up in the shadows of the moors, so perhaps it is inevitable that I would be drawn to Brontesque landscapes and see the darkness in everything. It has colored my vision, seeing everything through a sombre hue; cityscapes shed their modernity and become warrens of Victorian alleys and the natural world dons a veil of malevolence.

This series of photographs is from the coast near my home in Valencia. Nominally bright and sunny, the tangled branches and intersection between elements suggested something more sinister and primal to me. A gothic novel cast in the roots of the natural world.
The ordinary can be extraordinary. The normal surreal. It is all about the lens through which we view the world. A walk through nominal rurality in the outskirts of Valencia led me into an imagined realm of fantasy.
